Oklahoma Koi Show, 1999

The 1999 Oklahoma Koi Society Koi show was September 4-5 in The Made in Oklahoma Building on the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The Made in Oklahoma Building is a large, climate controlled exhibition hall with concession stand in the building.

This years head Judge was AKCA certified judge Dr. Galen Hansen of San Diego, CA. assisted by AKCA certified judge Mr. Jim Reilly of Morris Township, New Jersey and AKCA candidate judge Mr. Ron Bevel of San Diego.

Judging was "English Style" due to rumors of disease problems that have occurred this summer in the Western United States. The judging took about 5 hours due the large number of Koi in the show, we had 208 koi this year..

The club's primary objective was to make this show a valuable educational and social experience both for the beginning hobbyist and the seasoned koi keepers. The judging was open to "silent" public viewing. The judges discussed the "standards" for each variety and commented on why a specific fish is selected over another. This was an extraordinary educational opportunity. It was a special privilege to be able to watch, listen, and learn from the experts. Due the English style of judging this year it was somewhat difficult to meet these objectives but the judges made every effort to do so.

This was a hobbyist show therefore no commercial koi dealers or breeders were allowed to enter koi in the show. We took digital photographs of each koi entered and presented each entrant (family) with a copy of the show CD-ROM at checkout.
